ROBOTICS
i first read about Robotics in the 50s, probably in I,ROBOT by super-genius Isaac Asimov, whom we named my second son after.and his FIVE LAWS OF ROBOTICS are still in usage today, see the Will Smith movie for more details altho it is Very Loosely based on the book.
but it was the novel which became the film COLOSSUS:THE FORBIN PROJECT
WHICH AFFECTED ME MOST. IN IT TWO SUPERCOMPUTERS,
BOTH DESIGNED ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF "THE COLD WAR" UNITE TO STABILIZE HUMANITY BY BECOMING "god",SOMETHING REFLECTED IN THE MORE POPULAR  WAR GAMES.

"SKYNET" anyone? behind me TERMINATOR 2:JUDGMENT DAY is playing with a buff Linda Hamilton kicking some serious ass etc etc.
what has this to do with Asimov? this brings us to the
genius and immortalist RAY KURZWEIL, look him up this man is both fascinating and scary.

1. the guy wants to live Forever, no i mean really.not downloading his thots into computer storage or into some as yet to be perfected cyborg, he wants his body to last physically intact for at least 500 years and there is some nut in England who sez 1000 years is desirable...HUGE DESPAIRING SIGH.
if this perfected the starving masses in america,africa and Bangladesh won't even get a chance in line for this millionares elxir or whatever, more of the same if you ask me. More ELITISM uber alles..

2.but it is his second idea which troubles me most. SINGULARITY ORIGINALLY THIS ONLY DESCRIBED THE EVENT HORIZON OF BLACK HOLES AND NOTHING ELSE, OUTSIDE OF GRAPHIC NOVELS AND HIGHBROW SCI FI...(damn Caps Lock key, i blew compressed air into it last week and it seemed better briefly.)

where was i? oh right Kurzweil,
he has reformatted SINGULARITY to mean the day,
in the very near future when according to MOORE'S LAW,
COLLECTIVE A.I.  'ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE'
will make individual computers smarter & faster than humans, smart humans.

IMHO this is not a Good Idea.
Kurzweil also invisions robots designing,
creating and building the next generations of robots
-without human interfernce....
philosophically we are playing "god" and how could we,as imperfect as we are, somehow manifest Perfection? what if they decide keep us around as stupid pets, too malicious to let roam the universe or maybe just this orb. what if they put us in Quarantine until we grow up,if ever...

also, lets assume for a moment that THE RAPTURE & 2012
don't happen....lets assume we have to ride it out here on this single damaged planet.

you realize by now that i am a human Data Aggregator and i what i find scares me,
as i have children,otherwise fuck it.
what the CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS
seemed to have missed with all their bluster is that
Climate Changer Estimates have mostly been
Too Conservative about the RATE OF CHANGE...
we just had a weather front last week which effected 30 states
and now a huge weather front is bringing death and disaster from the Yukon to Mexico.

what if? we have Missed the Tipping Point
and the damage is irreversible while we argue over
corporate profits and seating arrangements on the Titanic?
SOUL; MATE got pissed at a local candidate becuz he thot Electirc Casrs would solve Everything, just plug in and go,
as i may have mentioned most COAL FIRED POWER PLANTS
POLLUTE WHILE GENERATING PRECIOUS ELECTRICITY...
THATS A LOSE-LOSE AS I SEE IT
while smug preening faux environmetalists pat themselves on the back,
hope they dislocate something.
