CYBORGS

"We must avoid the temptation to drown in distractions and distortions." SEN.HARRY REID

aloha,
as a rule i do not like POST APOCALYPSE (sp?) settings for movies.there are about five or six i think work...Mad Max, Resident Evil 3,Terminator; Salvation,Pandorum...whatever.
so it was weird that my dreams last night were all about POST BIG ONE QUAKE SAN FRANCISCO clawing its way to civilization, with my valuable but usually ignored advice (oh yes & i was also heavily armed).

i am on a new med for sleep and old one to stop stomach cramps and last nite i watched a JIM THOMPSON noir adaption from 1990 AAFTER DARK, MY SWEET with Jason Patric and Rachel Ward and the last half of JENNIFER'S BODY.

i blame CSPAN, a few days ago they were talking to futurists and geeks about technology and one guy who wrote a book HAMLET'S BLACKBERRY i think, pointed out that Socrates was against the new fangled GREEK ALPHABET BECAUSE HE THOT IT WOULD WEAKEN THE CAPACITY FOR MEMORIZATION OF EPICS ET AL.Socrates saw the alphabet as a crutch and unneeded one at that.so this geek futurist points out that each new device is an extension of our five senses, six if you include skin, and that each molds our malleable brains to different escalating settings-a common trope of recent brain research.

TANGENTS
1.the PREDATOR DRONES CONTROLS were re redesigned to reflect video games systems to make the learning curve for operators miniscule. LEARN TO KILL ELECTRONICALLY THEN IN REAL LIFE & DEATH.HUGE SIGH.
2.the BAREFOOT BANDIT learned to fly via video games which simulated real flight so effectively he stole two planes and flew to the carribean, his mother was so proud as she intended to send money sending him to flight school.now if only there was a video game which taught him NOT to steal SIGH.
3. there is a scientist in scandanavia who has had a cyborg probe inserted into his brain which lets him control a robotic arm, he is NOT otherwise disabled.are we destined to become THE BORG IN ST:TNG (Star Trek:The Next Generation)?????
4. there are now clinics which treat video game and PC addictions, some gamers have died during marathon sessions which have lasted days...

i DO NOT JONES when my PC is down or days when i am not online, for reasons of health & sanity, i am one of those who do not see the need to have a cell phone or smart phone (sic) glued to my hip everywhere i go nor do i need to takes calls when on the toilet like others i have over heard.

LUDDITE? perhaps...feudal samurai era Japan banned the use of guns for centuries as they figured it would disrupt traditional society, they were so right.
some nukes are designed to airburst yielding an EMP (ELECTROMAGNETIC PULSE)which fries all electronics putting your opponent back into the kerosene lit 1890s.this would be a BAD THING right?

NANO NASTY

some nanotech is now being designed to be implanted into your bloodstream and scrub out the nasties so that our lifespans will be extended into...? call me PARANOID but if this gunk is flowing thru our brains what is to stop the gummint or Microsoft or Oracle from implanting mind control firmware to make us 1984 style zombies without even noticing? i'm just sayin'...

COVERT VS OVERT

PAGANI accuses me, sometimes rightly, of dealing too much in the hypothetical and things beyond our control, while PANDORA my paranoid friend is just the opposite using me as a resource for covert tech.
usually DARPA (DEFENSE ADVANCED RESEARCH PROJECTS AGENCY-the real inventors of our beloved internets)is 10-20 years beyond our currently available personal electronics, now they are working on jet fighter controls using eye movement and thot waves,so by inference....

i am 62 and should, by actuarial tables, be dead in 20-30 years but my boyz are 22 and 23 and if they live to be 80 or 110 all this will be dumped in their unready laps, so as a parent and sceptic i worry about it.

IT IS HARD ENUFF BEING HUMAN AS IT IS NOW....SIGH & CRY?

  1. Eh, I'd say more like unnecessarily upsetting yourself. :) It's only "too much" if you don't like being upset and in turmoil about the world. However emotions, even negative ones, are a drug. Often they are the drug of choice.
