aloha, kinda scrambling for a focus today but i have errands to run today and soon.

CGI SPLATTER
saw SPARTACUS the new series on STARZ last nite....CNN was irate last week before the show even aired. hmmm, wonder why?
hope it was the graphically enhanced blood spray they objected to and not the loads of full frontal (except penii, penises) nudity.
i hope it was the blood. how do i describe it GRATUITOUS i think but fairly realistic.death and dismemberment is neither pretty nor neat. THE WILD BUNCH, "300", the chambara (samurai) series BABYCART IN.... all were bloody messes but this was before the super reds CGI era. (i think it is well made enough to maybe be a minor hit, it is no ROME and often i looked past the nudity or splatter to admire the obvious budget conscious green screen composite shots like in GLADIATOR.wonder how soon it will take to wear out it's welcome???)

BLOOD LOSS
an unblinking finale single shot in an arthouse classic VIVA LA MUERTE back in the 60's, a steer has its throat cut with a chainsaw then is casually eviscerated before a naked woman climbs into the blood carcass to sprout some artsy gibberish, real steer and real blood.to me this came across as unbearably pretentious..what is it about times of war which bring out the worst in us? in the 60s it was nihilistic media and now it is death dealing video games, if those digital deaths were real both my sons would be serving multiple life terms in SuperMax prisons.

THUG LIFE
there is an ongoing gang war raging in Salinas,shootings and stabbings are an almost daily occurrence.there is some spillover into Santa Cruz County of course, we have beaches and UCSC hotties. real blood and real people.the Salinas government has a plan to stop some of this, give the gang bangers jobs, this has worked in other cities like Boston and Sacramento but in this bleak economy the public outcry was all too predictable.
or we could send them to the military like the skinheads to learn the proper use of automatic weapons and explosives...

i wish i could wrap this all up neatly but i fear this is just another loose end in our mortality and deliberations...i got almost no real sleep last nite, dreamed about MY EX (*) in a 25 year old Tea Leoni's body letting my red MG (my first car) get stolen in Frisco.woke up disoriented and not sure which bed or where i was. this is shaping up to be a rare bad day,hope not SIGH.
