I'm slightly annoyed when presumably mainstream journalists go for sensational headlines like "traces of an advanced civilization" .."sensational" because it implies so much more than is actually there. And it is not really supported by the article itself.
To be clear, the actual article only says "had complex societies that managed the forest" - which may qualify as advanced from a scientific perspective -- and ONLY when comparing stone age societies against each other. But modern readers may jump into visions of refugees from Atlantis with antigravity machines and spaceships.
That's not what they're saying at all; they didn't even have the wheel for petesake. :)
