last week i saw Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt in
EDGE OF TOMORROW (which i enjoyed mucho)
so while i was waiting for the film to begin
i thot "i should watch Enders Game on Netflix soon"...
that night i was pleased to see it listed on premium cable
so i changed my nite's viewing accordingly.
my viewing pleasure quickly soured...
where do begin?
1. the film is a treasure of hard shiny surfaces
or rough jagged surfaces
that look almost familiar,
like they've stolen the concepts from past movies.
perhaps.
2. Soul Mate's concept of womyn,gays and coloreds
as "background noiase" is never truer than
this phallocentric multicultural film.
there a three female speaking parts as i recall
who serve mainly as a minor key emotional fig leaf
for the gruesome proceedings.
an american film meme is the bullied innocent
who is humilated repeatedly before
responding with overwhelming,
often lethal,force.
so it's a logical escalation from that to genocide?
(Orson Scott Card who wrote the original novel,
which i read with enjoyment decades ago,
has taken heat for this online but refuses to budge.)
3. the premise of the film
is that insectoid aliens "invaded" earth
decades ago and the earthers fought them back
and claimed a narrow victory so now
they're looking for The One (not unlike The Matrix)
who has all the intellectual and emotional capacity
to lead them onwards over the Bug Homeworld.
despite all their blather about "empathy"
they choose a cookie cutter white male youth
with a propensity for violence.bullying
is accepted as a given, a character builder, with a sop of
leadership and teamwork.
womyn are a tick on the angry white male elephant ego
and worldview, the merest nudge toward a balance of humanity.
here to be happIly ignored or verbally abused
as needed. imagine West Point in space
with an angry Old Testament God
(Harrison Ford) as your
demanding commanding officer.

anyho the accepted response to any assault by "bugs'
(wogs,gooks,slopes,slants etc etc)
is basically genocide
so that your forestall and eliminate all future threats.
this is pretty close to american foregin policy in a nutshell.
since it has worked so well since 1945.....
so see the film,or not, and tell me what you think- or not.
