this is difficult to write for so many reason...sigh
not the least of which is the Google hiccup delay....
so lets try this
the author of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TRILOGY
was motivated,in part, by the effort to expose
the seamy underbelly of Nazi's in Denamrk
and "white slavery".IMHO he did a good job.
in the same vein,pun intended,is
the Canadian film,
THE WHISTLE BLOWER
starring Rachel Weisz
now playing on the indie film circuit .
based on the true story of Nebraska cop
Kathryn Bolkovac and what she found
in Serbia in 1999 when she went
there working for DYNCORP
(the alleged CIA spin-off front group)
as a highly paid unarmed investigator.
(SM's fave the fantastic Vanessa Redgrave
also has a small but vital part)
the Ukraine born Canadian
female director Lanya Kondracki
shows that whoever wins a war
its the wimmin who lose.
here its Bosnian wimmin being sold
into sexual slavery and degradation in Serbia
or white Russian wimmin flooding
the sex trafficking market
after the Soviet Union crashed and burned.
in the film and in reality
the UN Peacekeepers and private contractors
had a very profitable sideline
selling wimmin into chattel slavery....
remember the distinction i made
recently between AGITPROP & NUMBPROP?
this film starts out as one and almost evolves into the other...
if you love wimmin or have ever been raped
this is a hard film to watch....
have noticed a gender diff in the ratings
with men treating this as fluff and wimmin
being wounded by its impact,here
in "liberal santa cruz"
some wimmin are being advised NOT to see it.
with either 1 in 5 or 1 in 4 wimmin being raped
in their lifetimes,i can see why.
i say, go see it
but not for Entertainment value,
think of it as Homework
in being Human.
